ring premiered in february 1999 at the centre national de la danse, maison des compagnies et des spectacles, ex théâtre contemporain de la danse in paris and was performed next at the judson church in new york city in november of the same year, within the new europe festival. further tours led to chateauvallon, strasbourg, essen, munich, berlin, nancy, dieppe, dijon, forbach, rome, milano, naples, london, leeds, nottingham, ajaccio, amsterdam, brussels, bratislava, bucharest, limassol, lima, caracas and la paz. ring is also part of the repertory of the ballet de lorraine, nancy.
while the first ring versions where improvised with the bass player jean claude jones later the ring-music got structured in collaboration with the composer / musician ulrike haage. ulrike introduced me to electronic music, letting me mess around with her electribe and supporting me with open ears and friendship in my compositions. she also invited me to create the sound-scape for the play bombsong with the writer thea dorn and the singer bobo.
the idea behind the ring-compositions is to create an audiolounge of various electronic and acoustic sound samples designed to interact constantly with the actions of the ring-dancers. if you are interested in that soundtrack please contact me.
