tools

tools was a commissioned work for the ballet de l'opera national du rhin, mulhouse
the large movements of the cosmos as well as the molecular structures that mysteriously animate any matter are felix ruckert’s source of inspiration in tools (and tricks for survival in outer space).

while felix worked in the wide open space with the 28 dancers of the ballet du rhin i composed and arranged the music in a hotel room in mulhouse. i tried to find a 66 minutes composition that would make the opera dancers enjoy dancing and trust their improvisational skills. i enjoyed sitting in the orchestra pit of the opera backed by well dressed elderly people trying to figure out what was happening.
